Persephone's Tale Told Anew
The myth of Persephone consists of her being kidnapped by Hades and returned to her mother Demeter after the world falls into ruin because of a mother's mourning the loss of her daughter. In Radiant Darkness by Emily Whitman we are introduced to a new point of view, Persephone's own vantage point on the entire situation. In this version, Demeter is not the loving mother figure that we expect. Hades is not the evil, creepy, stalker that the original makes him out to be. Persephone is not a helpless, simpering child that refuses to stand up for herself.
