Early Book Review: Cast in Sorrow by Michelle Sagara

Cast in Sorrow by Michelle Sagara is the ninth book in the fantasy  Elantra Series. It is scheduled for release on August 27 2013. If you have not read the first eight books in the series, do not start here! Go back to the beginning and Cast in Shadow. While you will easily understand the action and most of the connections without reading the previous books, I think I got so much more out of the story because I have all of the character growth and connections firmly in mind while reading. It definitely adds to the enjoyment of this book. If you have read all the other book, then I am sure you plan on reading this one too (and the next, and the next) just like me.

in Cast in Sorrow Private Kaylin Neya is a bit surprised by her safe arrival in the West March, since Barrani enemies, both new and old, surround her and her friends. Of course, trouble is quickly found. In this installment, Kaylin's assignment is to be a "harmoniste"—one who helps tell the truth behind a Barrani Recitation, a ceremonial song of great and mystical importance. However, in a land where words and names can be much more effective than weapons, Kaylin's duties are more dangerous than she can hop to understand. There is a painful past, a wounded land, and political battles that need to be reconciled and Kaylin is at a loss because she does not know the story she is supposed to tell.

I do not want to share the details of Kaylin's quest, because her discoveries and searching are a vital part of the story, and half the fun of the read. If you have enjoyed the series thus far, do not stop now- pick up Cast in Sorrow as soon as you can and keep on reading. If you like fantasy, mystery, strong world building, and even stronger characters then I suggest you go get started with Cast in Shadow, this book will be waiting for you when you are ready for it.
