Early Book Review: Lulu and the Duck in the Park by Hilary McKay
Lulu and the Duck in the Park by Hilary McKay is a children's chapter book scheduled for release on August 1 2012. Lulu loves animals, she loves them a lot, and they seem to love her in return. Unfortunately, Lulu's teacher does not seem to share that love. In fact, she seems to dislike animals, even the class pet. A disastrous class trip to the park ends with lulu in possession of a duck egg, but she will be in serious trouble if she is caught with anymore pets in class. Lulu is on a mission, to make sure the duck egg is safe, and that she does not get caught.
Lulu and the Duck in the Park is a cute chapter book that will appeal to children that love animals, or just want to do their own thing. any child that has been in the position that their special love for animals, art, a certain color, or anything else, will quickly relate to lulu. she loves animals and just wants to help them, spend time with them, and help other people relate to them. wanting to share a passion with others is something everyone has felt at some point, but like Lulu learning when it is appropriate to share can be a struggle. The story itself is fun and heartwarming, although as a parent the idea of weekly trips to a lake as a class sounds both wonderful and woefully understaffed. However, young readers will only wonder why their class cannot just go to a lake when they want to.
I recommend Lulu and the Duck in the Park to readers between 6 and 10, particularly children with a special affinity for animals.
