The Waters and the Wild by Francesca Lia Block is a young adult novel about a thirteen-year-old girl named Bee. She has always felt different, lost and separate from everyone. While this is not that unusual for a teenager, her differences are more than most. She has a special talent with plants, has dreamt about eating soil just to be closer to nature and has just discovered a doppelganger that may want to change places. However, she has found friends in fellow outcasts and has started loving the world and feeling more connected than ever before.
