Book Review: Dead in the Family

Charlaine Harris's Tenth Book in the Sookie Stackhouse Series

Charlaine Harris has produced another great book in her Sookie Stackhouse series, now best known in connection with the True Blood series on HBO. Two quick disclaimers for anyone that has not read the previous books in the series. Do not jump in the middle; you need to start at the beginning. While you might be able to enjoy the book there is a lot of history and back-story that amplifies the meaning and enjoyment of several situations and relationships. Second, if you have been following the television series and enjoy it do not be afraid to read the books. The feel of the books is kept in the show, but the storylines are not followed to the letter. There are still surprises on the show for me, and surprises in the books for new readers. The series mixes the fun and suspense of the supernatural along side social commentary on tolerance and respect for people that are different tan ourselves.
