Book Review and Blog Tour: Snatchabook by Helen and Thomas Docherty

The Snatchabook is a picturebook written by Helen Docherty and illustrated by Thomas Docherty. On one dark night in Burrow Down a young rabbit named Eliza Brown is settling down with a book, when a Snatchabook makes itself known. All over town books begin disappearing at bedtime, house by house. After nights of book vanishing Eliza stays up to discover the culprit, a little creature called a Snatchabook who has no one to read him a bedtime story. Eliza has a solution, and everyone can have a good night.

The Snatchabook is a charming book that will serve well as a storytime or bedtime read. The illustrations are a perfect match to the feel of the story and are both cute and cozy. The idea of a book thief that just needs someone to read to them and a little kindness struck the right note with me and my two young children. I loved little Eliza's solution, that if the Snatchabook returned the books it had stolen the residents of Burrow Down would take turns reading to the lonely critter just struck me as perfect ending which would encourage compassion and understanding in the youngest readers.

I would recommend The Snatchabook for home, school, and public library collections. The story is fun and sweet- offering a bit of a scare to book lovers like me who dread a missing book, and an extremely happy ending as everyone gets to enjoy good books and some snuggle time. What could be better?
