Picturebook Review: Dog Number 1 Dog Number 10

Dog Number 1 Dog Number 10, written and illustrated by Ami Rubinger, is a playful counting book done in rhyme. On each page the pups count, leaving out the last word so that the children listening or reading can chime in with the answer. The illustration are fun and brightly colored. The animals are a little silly and goofy looking, but the rhyming is strong and the personalities of the pup are clear by their names and words.

Dog Number 1 Dog Number 10 does not stand out as a fantastic book, but it would do well in a playful storytime that encourages play and interaction. I especially like the change up at the end, including cats in the counting fun. Definitely a book that is best for reading aloud rather than children independently reading.
